NSU’s Annual Film Series: The Reel (Jan. 27)

The Department of Humanities and Politics, Pre-Health Book Club, OK Club, Be Happy Club, and Wyrd (NSU’s Book Club) are pleased to present the next screening of NSU’s Annual Film Series: The Reel! The Reel offers NSU students, faculty, and other members of the university and local community curated film screenings on campus, free of charge, and open to the public. To ensure a safe experience, this event is being held outside, masks required, on the Alvin Sherman Library lawn.

On Jan. 27, Thurs. 6:30-8:30 p.m. Dr. Vicki Toscano and members of NSU’s Book Club, Wyrd, will lead discussion of The Farewell, directed by Lulu Wang.

This comedy-drama asks what makes us happy and when is it ok to lie. At the core of the story is a Chinese-American writer, played by Awkwafina, who is devastated by her family’s wish—to lie to their grandmother who does not know she has cancer. A difficult subject on its own, the film navigates the intimate issues of health and the cultural perspectives of China and America with thoughtfulness and heart.

This screening of The Reel is co-sponsored by the following student organizations: Pre-Health Book Club, OK Club, Be Happy Club, and Wyrd (NSU’s Book Club).
