The subject of prenatal genetic testing introduces ethical questions about vaccinations, testing for long-term health consequences, and “designer babies” for whom certain biological characteristics (e.g., sex, eye color, height) are preselected. This lecture will also address larger ethical questions about genetics research, including the excitement and controversy surrounding CRISPR, a new research tool with the power to edit genetic sequences and the potential to eliminate many diseases.

This talk is recommended for students of all levels, faculty and staff, and members of the community who are interested in the sciences/health professions, public policy, education, psychology, law, philosophy/ethics, and business.

A prolific author and well-regarded speaker, Arthur Caplan is the founder and head of the Division of Medical Ethics at the New York University Langone Medical Center, co-founder and Dean of Research of the NYU Sports and Society Program, head of the ethics program in the Global Institute for Public Health at NYU, and the Drs.
