Brain Awareness Week Provides Plenty to Think About

Brain Awareness Week

In celebration of international Brain Awareness Week, the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences will host a variety of events at NSU featuring interactive expos and presentations by students and faculty members. These events, which are free and open to the NSU community, are co-hosted by the college’s Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences and Division of Math, Science, and Technology.

Monday, Mar. 12
Neuroanatomy and Evolution Day
11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Don Taft University Center

Learn about brain and eye dissections, sensory disorders, and the evolution of the human brain and behavior.
Tuesday, Mar. 13
The Sensational Cognitive Brain
11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Don Taft University Center

Learn about language, attention, memory, learning, visual illusions, taste-bud counting, and the mirror box (invented by V.S. Ramachandran). Plus, make and eat your own candy neuron.

Wednesday, Mar. 14
Healthy and Not-So-Healthy Minds
11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

Learn about mental disorders, autism, and EEG and GSR recording.

Friday, Mar. 16
Stress and Electrophysiological Techniques
11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Don Taft University Center

Learn about the effects of stress on the brain, electrophysiological recordings, and action-potential recordings.

Saturday, Mar. 24
I Lobe the Brain
2:00–3:00 p.m.
Alvin Sherman Library

This corresponding event, suitable for children ages 3 and up, will feature hands-on activities, craft projects, and games.
