First year Pharmacy PhD Bioethics students; Padu Eangoor, Suhaib Muflih, Manasi Pimpley, Yogesh Joshi, Akesha Edwards, Shmuel Negussie, and post-doctoral fellow Zaher Hajar chaperoned Professors Bob Speth, Jean Latimer, Steve Grant and Librarian Courtney Mliner on an expedition to ‘Shark Valley’ and the Miccosukee village over Thanksgiving weekend. “It was the first big trip for some of us international students in the USA. Amazing we thought as we shouted Again! Again! at the end of the airboat ride.” There was playful debate about the preferred mode of traversing Shark Valley: both trammers and bikers were convinced that they had the best angle with the alligators on the path.
Regardless of transportation choice, nearly everyone sampled the Gator Bites at the Miccosukee Village Restaurant while discussing the ethics of taking a picture of the menu. Was it a copyright violation? Between lunch and the airboat ride we attentively absorbed the awesome alligator wrestling extravaganza in the Village. Afterwards, Padu prepared cooked plantains for us: “Make mine well-done” said Suhaib as he jostled the plantain into the coals. “Y’all are a great bunch to hang out with”, said Speth who was already conspiring with enthusiastic students to formulate the next expedition.
