UM-NSU Center for Autism and Related Disabilities to Benefit from Funds Raised at Dan Marino Foundation’s WalkAbout Autism

The NSU community is invited to participate in the upcoming 2011 Dan Marino Foundation WalkAbout Autism, benefiting the UM-NSU Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (UM-NSU CARD), FAU CARD, the Dan Marino Foundation and the Autism Societies of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties.

The Dan Marino Foundation teamed up with the Miami Dolphins and Sun Life Stadium to unite the autism community of South Florida for the walk on Saturday, Jan. 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sun Life Stadium.

All proceeds raised through this event will stay in the local community and benefit autism research, awareness and services. Participating schools in South Florida will receive 25 percent of the money raised by their teams to support special needs programming in their school.

“The work that the Dan Marino Foundation is doing in collaboration with UM-NSU CARD, FAU CARD and the Autism Societies of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties is a genuine inspiration,” said Jeff Ireland, General Manager of the Miami Dolphins. “The immense impact they have on the lives of those with autism is immeasurable. It is so necessary to give back to your community, not only with monetary contributions, but with quality time and resolution.”

The UM-NSU CARD provides FREE services for more than 5,500 families throughout Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe Counties. Services include family support, technical assistance and consultation, parent and professional training programs, and public education activities.

The center also supports research in a variety of disciplines to better understand the causes and potential treatments for the disorder. For more information on UM-NSU CARD, please visit www.umcard.org or call 954-262-7111.
