Special Olympics 5k Walk (Register today: Event is on Nov. 5)

The Sallarulo’s Race for Champions 5k is one of the largest fundraising events for Special Olympics Florida. A South Florida institution, the event celebrates respect and compassion for all by providing an opportunity for the entire community to walk or run alongside Special Olympics Florida athletes. The funds raised through Sallarulo’s Race for Champions support Special Olympics Florida’s programs right here in Broward County, serving more than 6,000 athletes and their families each year. Athletes benefit from year-round sports training and competition in a variety of 19 sports and receive health services, inclusive programming, and leadership training all at no cost. Through the transformative power and joy of sport, Special Olympics Florida and Sallarulo’s Race for Champions helps athletes live richer, fuller lives.

Its goal is to highlight the fact that people with intellectual disabilities can accomplish remarkable things if they’re only given the opportunity. Today, there are people with ID who are best-selling authors, accomplished musicians, world-class athletes, and community leaders. The Race for Champions is an integral part of the Special Olympics’ peaceful, social revolution. It’s a revolution against the “fear of difference” and demands that people with intellectual disabilities be treated with equality, dignity, and the recognition of our shared humanity. Special Olympics Florida has been fighting for inclusion and acceptance since its founding, 50 years ago.

Sallarulo’s Race for Champions will celebrate its 17th year on the campus of Nova Southeastern University on Saturday, November 5th.
