SHSS Launches New Program- M.S. in National Security Affairs (NSA)

National security affairs is one of the fastest growing professions with positions open in the public sector in the federal, state and local governments, as well as in the private sector. The program is designed for professionals currently in the field of National Security Affairs seeking career advancement, those who aspire to enter the field, individuals in related professions, and those retired or about to retire from the military and government seeking consulting and other positions.  Examples of potential students include personnel in the military, federal, state and local governments, law enforcement, corporations, and academia, as well as recent college graduates.

The Department of Multidisciplinary Studies in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Services, at Nova Southeastern University is delighted to offer a new 33-credit M.S. in National Security Affairs. This program is designed to provide students with theoretical, research, and applied skills in the emerging academic field of national security affairs. Students in this program will build a core understanding of critical issues informing the field of national security today, including the assessment and analysis of the threat of terrorism in the US and beyond and the analysis of intelligence collection.

Students will take five core classes in Current & Historical Issues, Terrorists & Terrorism,  National Intelligence Collection, Border Protection & Military Issues, and Research and Evaluation in National Security Affairs. They will then select a concentration in one of these concentrations, as well as two additional electives from any of the concentrations:

–          Cyber-terrorism and Security (in partnership with the Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences)

–          Criminal Justice (in partnership with the Criminal Justice Institute)

–          International Relations and Global Affairs (at the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences)

–          Homeland Security (at the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences)

Faculty teaching in the program includes fulltime NSU professors as well as part-time faculty who are engaged in work in the field. Together the faculty can provide both academic and theoretical knowledge as well as real world experience.

NSA is offered online and therefore it is available to students who travel or who are located in various places throughout the US and around the world. It will commence in 2011. Note: This program is pending review and approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
