SHSS Faculty presents in Istanbul at International Transgenerational Trauma Conference

Cheryl Duckworth, Ph.D.,Cheryl Duckworth, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (DCAR) in NSU’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), presented at the Third Annual International Conference on Transgenerational Trauma: Communal Wounds and Victim Identities.

The conference was held in Istanbul, Turkey and was sponsored by Common Bond Institute, Michigan State University, International Humanistic Psychology Association and International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations. Duckworth’s presentation was entitled, “Transgenerational Trauma and Teaching 9/11.” It focused on her research on how teachers approach 9/11 for her new book: 9/11 and Collective Memory in U.S. Classrooms: Teaching About Terror.

Duckworth is the faculty facilitator for the Peace and Conflict Education Working Group at SHSS. The group seeks to equip and empower schools worldwide to be examples and builders of peace, and to promote activities and curriculum that can help extend peace into the local communities.
