SHSS Acknowledges Genocide Awareness Month with Film and Discussion

NSU’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) and The Institute for Genocide Awareness and Applied Research (IGAAR) will be screening the film Beyond the Gates on April 11 at 6 p.m. in Maltz Psychology Building, room 2045 (main campus.) The IGAAR was founded by SHSS faculty member Jason J. Campbell, Ph.D.

Beyond the Gates is based on a true story about a Catholic priest and an English teacher at a Rwandan school who find themselves caught in the ongoing genocide. They must choose whether to stay with the thousands of Tutsis about to be massacred or to flee for safety. April is National Genocide Awareness Month, and marks the 20th anniversary of the 1994 Rwandan genocide that led to the deaths of over 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus.

Refreshments will be served. If you have any questions, please contact Carlyn Jorgensen at cj587@nova.edu
