Razor’s Edge Shark Cage Student-Run Business Grand Opening Celebrations (September 11)

Grand Opening Celebrations Friday, September 11 for three Razor’s Edge Shark Cage Student-run Businesses

Three more new student-run businesses to celebrate the beginning of a new academic year, BBQ Club, a popular campus business in 2019-2020 is ready to re-launch under new ownership; The Shake Place, another popular campus business in 2019-2020, operating as Sweet Spot Milkshakes, is ready to re-launch under new ownership; and, Mako Meltz are all ready to celebrate their Grand Openings on Friday, September 11.  Seven more student-run businesses, Cheeselicious, CrochetSwim, Lotsa Tacos, Natural Bowl, Sharky Art, Sweet Tooth, and Vine & Branch Co., celebrated Grand Openings previously. Head to the Shark Cage at Mako Hall for the Grand Openings of these student-run businesses owned and operated by the Bezos Class of 2022 Razor’s Edge Shark Cage Scholars Program family.  These businesses join six returning Shark Cage businesses that closed last March during campus closure, i.e. Captain Nova; Mako Manner Clothing Co.; R3, Shark Shoes; Get Thrifty; and the Lemonade Stand.  This is an enormous accomplishment for these students, and we would like to invite you to join us and enjoy some of the great products and services offered by these entrepreneurial ventures.  Cash, credit cards, and Shark Cash are accepted.

Whether looking for something to eat or drink or to take advantage of the many other services that the students provide, the NSU community is likely to find it at the Shark Cage facility.  Each business aims to engage all members of the NSU community including students, faculty, and staff.

“Students went through specifically designed courses to aid them in getting their businesses started, made funding pitches for their microloans, ordered their equipment and inventory, and launched over 20 student-run businesses in the last two years,” said Cheryl Babcock, director of the Shark Cage Program and Entrepreneurship faculty member in NSU’s Huizenga Business College.  “It has been awe-inspiring to witness the ingenuity, strong work ethic, and enthusiasm as they pursue their entrepreneurial journeys, and I am looking forward to the dedicated students who will open/reopen their businesses this fall.”

Each Razor’s Edge Shark Cage Scholars Program student creates, launches, and operates a business in their junior year, to fulfill their scholarships. This year, we have 13 new businesses launching from the Bezos Class, 10 in September and three additional businesses will celebrate their Grand Openings in Winter 2021. We invite you to ENGAGE with all the students at their Grand Openings and throughout the year by supporting their businesses.
