Each February, the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences commemorates Black History Month, celebrating the contributions of African Americans in United States history. The college invites the NSU community to participate in the following thought-provoking and inspiring events that will explore the people, literature, music, and experiences of black history in the United States and around the world. These events are free, but space is limited.

Stephen Engle, Ph.D., professor of history at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), will present a talk titled “Black History and the Civil War.”

As part of the college’s Faculty Lecture Series, Chetachi Egwu, Ph.D., assistant professor in the college, and Cathleen Dean, adjunct professor in the college, will present “Runway Afrique: The Power of African Images in the Fashion Industry.” The event will include a discussion and screening of Runway Afrique, a 30-minute film by Egwu and Dean that documents the first New York Africa Fashion Week.

Jones’s new work on Abraham Lincoln.
