On August 21, 2015, NSU rang in the start of the academic year with a Convocation celebration in the Arena at the Don Taft University Center. Almost 500 new students attended this celebration in their honor. New traditions were started this year by giving each new student in attendance a NSU Stole and their first Shark pin signifying the beginning of their journey here at Nova Southeastern University. Over 100 Faculty attended in full regalia and participated in the ceremony with Deans and members of the executive team. The audience was comprised of returning students, NSU staff and administrators as well as families and guests of the new students.
The ceremony opened and closed with the ringing of a ceremonial bell representing the beginning of the new academic year. Students were encouraged to get involved early by Undergraduate Student Government President Stacey Mendigutia and 2014-2015 STUEY Faculty Member of the Year, Dr. William Dorfman, encouraged students to engage with their faculty and embrace the classroom experience. Provost Ralph Rogers reminded all in attendance of NSU’s 8 core values and shared the importance of embracing these values as we continue to represent NSU in the future.
