Nova Singers to Premiere New Choral Composition (Mar. 17, 19, and 21)

Poster_Jan2017The Nova Singers is NSU’s premier community chorus, whose approximately 140 members range from NSU undergraduate students to senior members of the local community. The choir serves as musical ambassadors for the university as they sing around the country and abroad.

Tickets are now available for the South Florida Premiere of composer Dan Forrest’s recently completed Jubilate Deo for chorus and orchestra.

The composition is from the Psalm 100 text “O be joyful in the Lord, all ye lands,” and Forrest makes use of seven languages, drawing from a wide spectrum of musical influences. Each movement combines characteristics of its language-group’s musical culture with the composer’s own musical style. The result is a magnificent choral collection: a 45-minute global celebration of joy, as all the earth sings as one: “omnis terra, jubilate!”

“This is one of the most challenging and exciting choral compositions we’ve ever undertaken,” said Chuck Stanley, the Nova Singers’ artistic director. “It is a joyous, multicultural celebration of the psalm text.”
