Matrix Math Column Now Online: First to Solve Problem Wins a Prize

Matrix The latest issue of Matrix, the online math column from the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, is now available for viewing. This month’s theme explores “Abstract Algebra and Its Applications” and includes an article on Carl Friedrich Gauss, arguably the greatest mathematician of all time.

Each Matrix also features a “Problem of the Month,” created by division faculty. The problem-solving contest is open to current students and alumni with a valid NSU email address. The first student to submit a correct solution by Dec. 10 will win a prize. Winners must be able to visit the NSU main campus in a timely manner to claim their prize.

The college congratulates Hung D. Pham, biology major at the college, who was the first (of many) students to submit the correct answer to Matrix Issue 4’s Problem of the Month. View this month’s Matrix to see his solution for the “Deciphering a Code” problem.
