Homecoming 2010 “Ride the Wave” was certainly a success! The event kick-off began with the President’s Tailgate in front of the Don Taft University Center. Students, faculty and staff came together to enjoy free food and ice cream sundaes, while participating in the free throw contest to win their Homecoming T-Shirt. President Hanbury pumped up the crowd during the opening of the celebration, getting everyone excited for the week’s events. One of the focal points of the tailgate was a flash mob where students and staff came together spontaneously to dance!
The Raft Races (see photos) never fail to entertain and this year’s participants gave their all, paddling to one end and back of the Gold Circle Lake. Congratulations to this year’s winner, Rotaract, with the RecPlex coming in second. Who knows what will happen next year?!
The Men’s Basketball Game (see photos) really pumped up the crowd as they successfully defeated their opponent – theWarner Royals. Hundreds of NSU fans came to support their home team and to watch the coronation of the 2010 Homecoming Royalty. During halftime, Raphael De La Rosa and Lisa Vignola were crowed NSU’s Homecoming King and Queen! The game wasn’t the only thing keeping fans on edge with excitement. The winner of the “Free Textbooks ‘til U Graduate” scholarship was announced to Daphne Wlasek.
The fun didn’t end at the court. A post-game celebration immediately followed the exciting game in the flight deck where NSU fans could enjoy free food and music from special musical guest Alexander Star with the help of Marc Solomon and the rest of his band. The first 75 student were also able to leave with his new album.
The Homecoming Dance “Escape to Paradise” (see photos) was also a huge success. Many students danced the night away at Exit 66. A Polynesian Show at midnight amplified the theme, which helped make the event memorable!
