Though the NSU women’s basketball team was in the midst of a two-week break from NCAA competition in December, that didn’t mean they were completely removed from basketball action. The Sharks spent a great deal of time and energy volunteering with the Broward County Special Olympics at the Don Taft University Center.
“Our women’s basketball team volunteered for the Special Olympics of Broward County … at a basketball tournament held at NSU. Our players and coaches conducted skill sessions, assisted in skill competitions, and helped with operations during the tournament games,” remarked head coach LeAnn Freeland about her team’s involvement in the event.
“Our players were impressed by the Special Olympians’ positive attitudes, display of sportsmanship, and enthusiasm to play basketball. There were a lot of high fives given and received during the tournament by our players and the tournament participants. The volunteer opportunity was a very positive experience for our players and we plan to offer more of our time to such a great organization.” Complete Release
