Six undergraduate students from the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences recently put the skills they learned in the classroom on display for the community. On Sept. 15, the students performed in the Jazz in the Hall concert, hosted by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce.
The students are enrolled this fall in the college’s MUSC 3301 Ensemble I course, taught by Devin Arne, adjunct professor in the college. Under the direction of Arne, the following students performed in the concert: Mitchell Bitran, Anthony Calaluca, Paul Cunningham, Carlo Ricchi, Gillian Smith, and Alex Weiss. Cunningham, Ricchi, Smith, and Weiss are music majors in the college, while Bitran and Calaluca are psychology and humanities majors, respectively.
“Everyone was impressed with the ensemble’s high level of musicianship,” said Doug Frens, administrative events coordinator for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce, after the concert.
This performance serves as an example of the various ways students in the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences apply their classroom-acquired skills in practical settings.
Each year, the college also presents outstanding theatrical, musical, and dance productions at NSU. These performances serve as co-curricular opportunities for students to gain practical experience, and provide the NSU community with a local resource for educational and entertaining presentations.
