The 3rd Annual Student Town Hall Meeting hosted by President Hanbury took place Nov. 10 in the Don Taft University Center Arena Pit. President Hanbury addressed student concerns over parking, residential hall expansion, football club, increasing undergraduate student admissions and expanding research opportunities.

President Hanbury was eager to listen and answer questions from students and offered thoughtful yet lighthearted responses. Many times during the meeting students clapped at his responses. For example, President Hanbury spoke about recruitment, retention and financial issues. The university is currently working on securing endowments to ease tuition and provide assistance to students.

This year, athletics and athletic attendance took center stage after a student asked about football at NSU. President Hanbury acknowledged the importance of football but explained the university does not currently have a critical mass to fill a stadium.  He encouraged all students to participate and attend athletic events on campus in order to increase Shark spirit and pride.

In addition to President Hanbury’s attendance, other attendees include:

Associate Vice President of Business Services, Marc Crocquet
Vice President of Facilities Management, John Santulli
Resident District Manager of Chartwells, Robert Genser
Vice President for Student Affairs, Brad Williams, Ed.D.
Executive Director of Quality Assessment and Community Engagement, Barbara Packer-Muti, Ed.D.

Today’s event was sponsored by the Undergraduate Student Government Association. The second Student Town Hall Meeting will be held Friday, December 2, in the HPD Morris Auditorium.
