Hundreds of NSU students, faculty, and staff came out to cheer the competitors in the historic 28th Annual “Anything That Floats” Raft Races that took place November 5th as part of the NSU 2019 Homecoming Week.
Twenty four rafts, constructed by NSU students, set sail on the Gold Circle Lake to compete for one of three valuable prizes. From the out-of-water race start, some rafts powered the straight-away to cross the finish line at the “fin”. However, many rafts were not so sea-worthy and sank or broke apart. This led to great amusement for the numerous spectators.
The winners of each heat came together in a very close championship heat:
First Place: S.S. Half Ounce
Second Place: The Nature Club
Third Place: Student Media
First place was awarded $2,000, second place $1,000 and third place $500. The prize money goes to the club or organization each team is representing. Special thanks to both the Office of Campus Life and Student Engagement and the Office of Recreation and Wellness for putting on this event. Congratulations to all participants and winners at 28th Annual “Anything That Floats” Raft Races!
