FORT LAUDERDALE/DAVIE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University (NSU) will serve as an early voting location for the 2018 general election. Early voting will take place in Broward County from October 22 through November 4.
Registered voters will have the opportunity to cast their ballot in the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business & Entrepreneurship in rooms 1048 and 1049 on NSU’s Fort Lauderdale/Davie campus (3300 S. University Drive, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33314). Polling locations will be open from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. during the early voting period. Complimentary parking will be available in the parking garage adjacent to the College of Business building.
“NSU looks forward to hosting an early voting location for the Broward County community,” said Dr. George Hanbury, NSU’s president and CEO. “Our central location in the county allows for ease of voting for our students, faculty, staff and neighbors to engage in a time-honored civic duty.”
Previously, early voting had not been allowed on colleges and universities in Florida. That recently changed when U.S. District Judge Mark Walker struck down Florida’s ban on early voting on campuses this past July.
“My team is excited to be working in unison with NSU to set up the campus for a successful early voting experience,” said Brenda C. Snipes, Ed.D., Broward County’s Supervisor of Elections. “With the recent change regarding campus voting in Florida, we felt that this was a great opportunity to involve NSU in the voting process in Broward County.”
NSU will act as one of 21 locations for early voting. During early voting, registered voters may cast their ballot at any location in Broward County. Once early voting has ended, voters must visit their designated precinct.
To register to vote, you must be 18 years old, a U.S. citizen and legal resident of Florida. Those who wish to register may do so at RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov. Registration closes on October 9, 2018.
