In its founding year, NSU’s Collegiate DECA chapter is already making a name for itself. Nine members competed at the State Career Development Conference (CDC) in Orlando, FL. on March 5th and 6th and brought home top honors.
NSU DECA chapter members were up against teams from across the state and received second place in Accounting, Business to Business Marketing, Financial Statement Analysis, Sports and Entertainment Marketing, and Sales Management. They also placed in the top 10 in Banking and Financial Services, Business Ethics, and Restaurant and Food Service Management.
With those results, the students now qualify to compete at the International Career Development Conference in Washington, D.C. this April where they will put their knowledge, skills and experience up against thousands of members from across the country and around the globe.
The NSU chapter of DECA is sponsored by the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship (HCBE). The Collegiate DECA Competitive Events Program has been recognized for helping to prepare students for their professional careers. Students compete in 19 different business categories. Their work and presentations are judged by business and industry professionals in those fields.
Monica Moya, admissions manager/corporate relations, HCBE, and Rachel Mojica, associate director of alumni relations, Advancement, serve as co-advisers to the NSU group. At the conference, Mojica was named the 2016 inductee into the Florida Collegiate DECA Hall of Fame. This award recognizes individuals who have been involved in the organization throughout high school and college and now as a chapter advisor.
