Novapool, a special dance project combining live stage and virtual performances, returns to campus as part of the NSU Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Performance Series. The presentation features students performing simultaneously at NSU and across the pond at Liverpool John Moores University in England.

Debuting at NSU this past March, the Novapool dance project is an ongoing work by two groups of students. Each group performs live on its respective campus, interacting with the other by using simulcast technology. Audience members watch the NSU performance live while simultaneously viewing the student dancers in England. The underlying goal is to create a virtual dance company.
“Each group of students is exploring an alternative way to create a new dance work with both real and virtual fellow dancers, learning camera-performance techniques as well as ways of perceiving movement,” said Luke Kahlich, Ph.D., adjunct professor at the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, who organized the Novapool dance project. “We are exploring a split-screen technology to develop a work … that seeks to find a visual, kinesthetic, and artistic connection between the students.”
