Summer Biology Internships Available in Indiana and Austria

The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Division of Math, Science, and Technology is now accepting applications for the 2012 Biology Student Internship Program. There are up to two six-week internship positions available at each of the following sites: the Indiana University School of Medicine-Northwest in Indiana and the Medical University of Graz, Austria.

Designed to provide opportunities for hands-on research and practical experience in multiple scientific research disciplines, the internship program offers biology students exposure, direction, and guidance for their developing career paths. These experiences educate and train young scientists, often produce high-quality scientific results that are publishable and presentable at scientific meetings, and can result in outcomes that allow for successful acquisition of extramural support. The program also aims to foster intercampus and inter-institutional collaborative relationships on both a national and international level.

For complete details or to apply, download and complete the Summer 2012 Biology Student Internship Program Application. Along with the application, please also submit a personal statement discussing your interest in the program, an official university transcript, and three letters of recommendation, including two from faculty members who teach basic sciences. Submit all application materials and any questions to Mark Jaffe, D.P.M., associate professor in the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences. All application materials must be received by Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012.

The Biology Student Internship Program Committee will interview candidates, via phone or in-person, Feb. 8–14. Scholarships are available for qualifying students who complete the internship program.
