Guy Harvey, Ph.D., is a marine artist, scientist, diver, angler, conservationist, explorer and entrepreneur. Born in Germany, Harvey is a 10th generation Jamaican of English heritage–his family immigrated to Jamaica in 1664. His natural gift to recreate the underwater realm has propelled him from his work as a Marine Biologist. His work is recognized and enjoyed world-wide, from scientific research and documentaries to autobiographies and murals. As an entrepreneur, Guy Harvey, Inc., has licensing agreements with 15 partners, and products sold in more than 1,000 stores. In 2013, more than 2 million T-shirts were sold. A higher end women’s clothing line was launched last year. Other endeavors include a partnership for a branded rum product. There’s also the expansion into hospitality with Guy Harvey Outpost branded lodgings. Harvey’s most recent marketing slogan is, “Real Guy – Real Life.” Unlike other names and logos without a person behind the brand. In March 2014, Norwegian Cruise Line named Harvey to design the signature hull artwork of the line’s largest ship to date, the 4,248 passenger Norwegian Escape—scheduled to debut in October 2015.
The Guy Harvey Research Institute was established in 1999 to conserve and manage the world’s marine fishes and their ecosystems. In 2008, the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation was created to fund leading scientists. The recipient of many awards, Harvey was most recently inducted into the Huizenga Business School’s 2014 Entrepreneur Hall of Fame.
