Recently a group of students visited NSU’s Halmos College Ocean Campus to learn all about the work our researchers and students are doing related to marine sciences. The students are part of the Crockett Foundation, a South Florida organization created to help improve the quality of life and provide educational opportunities for today’s youth – particularly those from underserved communities.
During their visit, the students enjoyed presentations by Halmos College faculty members, toured the Ocean Campus, including the Guy Harvey Oceanographic Center building and the on-shore coral nurseries, and visited research labs. The goal was to make science and learning come alive with several hands-on experiences. They participated in a “scavenger hunt” in the Halmos research library – through a fun, interactive project they learned how to find information throughout the library and various reference groups.
The Crockett Foundation was founded by Henri and Zack Crockett, both former NFL players who are from the South Florida area and have strong ties to the community.
