This course focuses on interdisciplinary sustainable development, combining research, learning, and community engagement. Students will travel to Puerto Rico, beginning in San Juan, where they’ll connect with researchers and policymakers to explore the island’s historical, socioeconomic, and ecological contexts. The program includes visits to El Yunque National Forest and Jobos Bay to study biodiversity conservation and related social issues. In Ponce, students will engage with artists and anthropologists, delving into the Caribbean’s history, art, and anthropology. Additionally, participants will join community- led farm tours, observe sustainable development projects, and experience the region’s rich cultural and ecological diversity.

This Faculty-Led Study Travel course is available to undergraduate and graduate students, offered as an Independent Study (undergraduate: SOCL 4990A) and as a Practicum or Elective Course (graduate).
