Free Laughs Available at ‘Tartuffe’

From the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Division of Performing and Visual Arts comes the classic French comedy Tartuffe, a Premier Series production. Performances will take place Feb. 17–26, in the Black Box Theatre of the college’s Performing and Visual Arts Wing in the Don Taft University Center.

Originally written by Molière in the 1660s and later translated by poet Richard Wilbur, Tartuffe takes place in the home of the wealthy Orgon, where the title character—a fraud and a pious imposter—has insinuated himself. After finally winning the head of the household’s respect and devotion, Tartuffe attempts to marry Orgon’s daughter, seduce his wife, and scrounge the deed to the property.
