Special Agent in Charge, John. V. Gillies of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Miami Division spoke as a Distinguished Lecture Series speaker on Oct. 5 at the the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship. More than 130 guests attended the lecture in the Huizenga Sales Institute’s Executive Conference Center.
His lecture on, “Corruption, Ethics and Its Effect on the Business Environment,” had numerous examples of cases involving corruption, fraud, and unethical behavior.
“It’s not easy to do the right thing,” he told the audience. He also said rationalization is the #1 ethics enemy. Agent Gillies answered guests’ questions including an inquiry from Huizenga Business School Board of Governors’ member, John W. Ruffin, Jr., regarding the problem of drugs within the African-American community. Agent Gillies concluded his lecture with an important message saying, “We all have to be accountable and do our part; it must be a collaborative effort.”
Agent Gillies has been with the FBI since 1983, working as a financial analyst before becoming a special agent in 1985. He joined the Miami Division in September, 2009.
