In celebration of Earth Day on Apr. 22, the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Division of Math, Science, and Technology hosted a “Marine Biology and Environmental Science Social” at NSU’s Flight Deck. The event included a variety of exhibits and stations all focused on environmental education.
- Representatives from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s South Florida Water Management District taught attendees how to become certified Florida Master Naturalists.
- The Florida Native Plant Society was on hand to discuss the importance of native plants and distribute plants for students to take home.
- The Rainlife Rain Barrel Company hosted a raffle giving away a rain barrel while educating attendees about rain barrels and their significance during droughts.
- Representatives from NSU’s SCUBA and N.A.T.U.R.E. clubs discussed upcoming events.
Student research posters were also on display to further educate attendees about a variety of marine and environmental science topics. The event concluded with a screening of Home, a documentary by Yann Arthus-Bertrand about our influence on the planet.
