Creative Writing Workshops (March 29)

Department of Humanities and Politics Creative Writing Workshops

The Department of Humanities and Politics and Sigma Tau Delta (English Honor Society) are delighted to bring you two exciting creative writing workshops as part of the Style Us: Writing & Professionalization series!

Our workshop leaders are Dr. Kathleen Waites and Dr. Christine Jackson, two of our beloved professors emeriti who have published widely and are passionate about sharing their loves for writing with you, our upcoming generations of creative writers. Whether you have written or not, join us. Our workshop leaders will guide us through our specific and general questions about genres, creative writing, and publication. You don’t have to have anything written nor have any experience in any particular area. Come because you want to write! All majors and all levels welcome!

Waites brought a creative writing flair to her numerous book chapters and academic journal articles on the construction of identity in autobiography and the representation of gender in visual media. Particular Friendships: A Convent Memoir (2006) marks her foray into creative non-fiction, and she recently completed her debut novel, The Faithful Ones. Her new blog, “On the Trail with Kate” may be found at kathleenjwaites.squarespace.com.

Dreams are the first stories.  Dr. Chris Jackson has spent a lifetime reading, writing, and analyzing story patterns.  What makes them pop and provoke? What gives them shape?  This session lays out a process so you as a dreamer/writer/reader can make your stories shine with originality and meaning.
