In 2008, Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity Inc. decided to join forces with other universities across the country and host NSU’s first Dance Marathon benefiting the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Every year, this event brings hundreds of students around the campus who join in the fun for a good cause. This year, the NSU Dance Marathon will be held Saturday, March 31, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., in the Don Taft University Center, at the pit.
The event consists of students, faculty and volunteers dancing from morning ’til night, raising money through silent auctions, games, and donations. Dance instructors from all different dance disciplines come to the marathon and donate their time by teaching participants different styles of dance. Last year, dance lessons included: Hip Hop, Salsa, Ballroom, Bollywood, Line Dancing, and Belly Dancing. This year, we are adding Zumba and Persian dancing. Along with dance lessons, participants enjoy free food, t-shirts, gift bags and prizes. Last year’s prizes included an iPad, gift certificates to various restaurants, iPods, and many other items. There is also a silent auction, with open bidding on prizes like trips and tickets to exclusive entertainment and sporting events. This year, items up for auction include an iPad 2, Kaplan course, gift cards, and other great prizes. Many exciting surprises scheduled for this year’s event, making it even bigger and better than in previous years.
Last year, the NSU Dance Marathon raised more than $8,000 for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Join us, have fun and help us reach our new fundraising goal. Register online at http://support.pedaids.org/nsudm or at the event.
It’s only $20 to register and to enjoy a day of dance performances, workshops, music, games, and free food with your friends; and 100 percent of the proceeds go directly to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
