Each February, the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences commemorates Black History Month, celebrating the contributions of African Americans in United States history. The college invites the NSU community to participate in thought-provoking and inspiring events that will explore the people, literature, music, and experiences of black history in the United States and around the world.
On Tuesday, Feb. 15, the college will host an African dance master class with dancer Tami Idun-Ogde. This dynamic class on West African dance will also feature live drumming. The event will take place from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Performance Theatre of the college’s Performing and Visual Arts Wing in the Don Taft University Center.
The next day, Wednesday, Feb. 16, New York-based actor and writer David Mills will teach a master class on incorporating emotional memory in writing and the interpretation of a monologue and poetry. The event will feature poems from Harlem Renaissance icon Langston Hughes and will include a discussion about his life and work. Join in the class and discussion from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Mailman-Hollywood Building Auditorium, second floor.
