Call For Student Programming – National Sexual Assault Awareness Month (Due Mar. 11)

Call For Student Programming NSUSAAMThis April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The goal of sexual assault awareness month each year is to raise public awareness about the prevalence of sexual violence and educate communities on how to prevent it. The NSU Sexual Assault Awareness Month Planning Committee is seeking submissions for student-facilitated programs and workshops to occur during Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) this April.  This year, SAAM is celebrating its 18th anniversary with the theme: “I Ask.” Since consent is a clear, concrete example of what it takes to end sexual harassment, abuse, and assault, it makes sense that this year’s theme center on empowering all members of our community to put consent into practice. By inviting students and student organizations to facilitate and host programs and workshops related to sexual assault prevention, we hope to explore all the nuanced ways that asking for consent shows up in our daily lives.

We know that a single month isn’t enough to solve the serious and widespread issue of sexual violence. However, the nationwide focus in April generates is an opportunity to energize and expand prevention efforts throughout the year. Those students or student organizations wishing to host workshops or programs during sexual assault awareness month are encouraged to consider submitting program proposals which explore:

  • How consent and respecting boundaries are part of healthy relationships
  • How to practice consent in digital and online interactions
  • How alcohol and other substances may impact consent
  • How power dynamics can impact consent
  • How to practice consent In non-romantic circumstances, like work or internships
  • … and many other topics.
