Hello Sharks!
We hope that everyone had the most amazing summer and is ready to start the Fall 2024 semester. For those who don’t know us just yet, we are the Graduate Assistants for Student Counseling Services. Our names are Bilsy Thomas and Maria Fernanda Carriel, learn more about us by taking a peek at our “About Me” posters!
We want all members of our campus, students, faculty, and staff alike to be aware of the services that we provide to our community. Our goal is to be a confidential, supportive, and empathetic resource for everyone in a judge free environment. Essentially, we work with all students (e.g., undergraduates, graduates, residential students, commuter students, part-time, full-time), faculty, and staff members in the following ways:
For Students:
- Provide a confidential, supportive, and nonjudgemental space to talk about any and all concerns/problems that may be occurring.
- Collaborate on ways to minimize and cope with stress, develop healthier lifestyle behaviors, and improve time-management skills (among other topics).
- Assist student organizations and clubs in collaboratively developing events that target key physical health/mental health concerns.
- Assist students with getting connected to NSU and community resources.
For Faculty/Staff Members:
- Assist academic departments in facilitating discussions about physical health/mental health concerns and ways to be supportive resource.
- Collaborate on developing events that target key physical health/mental health issues occurring within the college population.
- Serve as a confidential resource that faculty and staff members can refer students to.
Again, we hope that your Fall 2024 semester is off to a great start. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns or want to connect with us, please contact us (we are very friendly, we swear!).
