The 15th annual South Florida Irish Film Festival, sponsored by the NSU Center for Applied Humanities and the Alvin Sherman Library, runs on the campus of NSU from November 15 to November 20. The festival features independent films showcasing various aspects of Irish culture and society. The selected films, which generally do not go on general release in the U.S., are provided by the Irish Film Institute in Dublin. This year’s screenings include a documentary on the history of Irish dance, Steps to Freedom, an award-winning Irish language film based during the Great Hunger (the Irish potato famine), Aracht, and a black comedy with a twist, Redemption of a Rogue. As a bonus this year, Steps to Freedom will be preceded by a live performance by the Drake School of Irish Dance.
