National Stalking Awareness Month

National Stalking Awareness Month

January is National Stalking Awareness Month (NSAM)! In solidarity with the aim of the NSAM to eliminate the occurrence of stalking, we seek your support in efforts to build awareness within the NSU community about this very important topic. As you engage with your family, friends, and peers this month, consider sparking conversations about stalking by doing the following:

  • Educate yourself about the concerning nature and prevalence of stalking, especially amongst former intimate partners.
  • Request Title IX staff to facilitate a workshop or program about stalking, as well as strategies for response and prevention, for you and your friends.
  • Change your personal social media banners or profiles to highlight National Stalking Awareness Month.
  • Share and retweet daily social media posts from the Stalking Prevention, Awareness & Resource Center on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.  Make sure to use the #NSAM2019.
  • Update your email signature with an image of NSAM’s Know It. Name It. Stop It. campaign banner.

As a member of the NSU community, we encourage you to remember the critical role you play in supporting those around you who may be affected by occurrence(s) of stalking. Any student disclosing experience with stalking should be encouraged to report these occurrence(s) to the NSU Title IX Coordinator (at www.nova.edu/title-ix), NSU Public Safety (954 262-8999), and/or Davie Police. Those impacted by the occurrence of stalking should also be referred to Henderson Student Counseling Services (at 954 424-6911) and should be directed to resources provided by the Staking Prevention, Awareness & Resource Center.

If you have any questions or concerns related to this announcement, please email TitleIX@nova.edu.
