Eileen Smith-Cavros, Ph.D., and Joyce Avorti-Wuaku, Ph.D., faculty in the Department of Conflict Resolution Studies in NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) published an article in the journal Qualitative Research in Medicine and Health. The other co-authors include Albert Wuaku, Ph.D. faculty and Graduate Program Director in the Department of Religious Studies at Florida Atlantic University and Amal Bhullar, B.S. At the tie of the project, Bhullar was an NSU undergraduate student studying anthropology and biology. She has since graduated and is currently attending medical school at Florida International University.
The article, titled “Rural Elders in Agate, Ghana, Discuss the National Healthcare Insurance Scheme,” is based on field research in Ghana. The qualitative study involved interviews with 28 elders over the age of 50 with pre-existing health conditions. Based on the data, the authors described possibilities for improved health care.
