CAHSS Student Presents at the American Society of Criminology Conference in New Orleans

Samantha Epstein, a senior in NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) participated in the poster presentations at the 2016 American Society of Criminology Conference (ASC) held in New Orleans, November 16-19, 2016. The theme of the conference was “The Many Colors of Crime and Justice.”  Her poster presentation was titled: “Male and female prison environments: Gender’s effect on performance and retention among female correctional officers.” Epstein is a Criminal Justice major and her faculty advisor is Kendra Gentry, Ph.D., faculty in the Department of Justice and Human Services. Epstein received conference funding through an NSU Pan Student Government Association Professional Development Grant.

“This had a major impact on me and my plans for the future,” Epstein said. “I now plan to apply to doctoral programs for criminology after seeing all of the research presented and talking with current Ph.D. students from across the country. I also feel that I grew as a person by pushing myself, with the help of Dr. Gentry, to interact and network with faculty and practitioners in the field. During the poster session, I benefited by receiving feedback about my research from these experts.”
