On November 7, 2013, several faculty and staff members from Nova Southeastern University’s Mailman Segal Center for Human Development and NSU’s Occupational Therapy Department gave a presentation entitled “Implementation of Weighted/Compression Vest Protocol in the School Setting to Maximize Self-Regulation”, at the Florida Occupational Therapy Association’s state conference. Those presenting were: Rachel DeCarie MOT, OTR/L, Rachel Khalifa, M.S. OTR/L, and Nicole Wilson, M.S. OTR/L, occupational therapists from the Baudhuin Preschool (Mailman Segal Center) and Sonia Kay, Ph.D. OTR/L, (Occupational Therapy Department.) The work presented represented the use of the weighted/compression vest as an intervention strategy for children with autism, used by occupational therapists to facilitate increased attention and emotional regulation.
