Running in the Publix Escape to Miami Triathlon has been a hobby for Isabel Olivas, but it is one in which she has proved to be successful.

Olivas, 28, of Kendall, is in her last year at the pharmacy school at Nova Southeastern, and she runs in triathlons for fun.

For the past four years Olivas has owned the female division of the Olympic distance, and in her fifth year did it again. She crashed her way through the finish line with a total time of 2:21:07, and she landed on the ground full of excitement, pain and utterly exhausted.

“I always finish on the floor,” Olivas said. “There is a lot of good competition here in Miami. I stay local, I enjoy it — I love it.

“It is just a hobby for me, so I am very happy to be here.”

Olivas found the biggest challenge to be on the McArthur Causeway run.

In the men’s division three Brazilians dominated the event. Alexander Gomes, Frederico Monteiro and Rodrigo Dos Santos out swam, biked and ran to take first, second and third place, respectively.

All three of the athletes came to here from Brazil to compete in the triathlon. Gomes took up a sizable lead in the run to finish with a total time of 1:58:13. Monteiro finished in 2:05:09, and Dos Santos followed in 2:06:40.
