MELBOURNE, Fla. – Following two standout performances to lift No.6 Nova Southeastern to 9-0 heading into the holiday break, redshirt-junior Connor Zinaich has been named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, announced by the league office Thursday afternoon.
Opposing defenses had no answer for Zinaich as the Sharks beat up on both Caldwell and Bluefield State by an average of 38.5 points. The versatile forward collected 26.5 points per game on 67 percent shooting in the two wins to go along with 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 3.0 assists and 1.5 blocks. Against a Caldwell team that eventually took undefeated Lynn to the wire, Zinaich posted a 26-point, 10-rebound double-double, while adding five steals on the defensive end. Just two days later, the Hagerstown, Md. native needed just 18 minutes to register a season-high 27 points, including the first eight of the second half to put the contest out of reach against Bluefield State.
Since joining the starting lineup on Dec. 8, Zinaich has led the team in scoring at 22.8 points per contest.
NSU will return from a 10-day layoff by hosting No. 10 Florida Southern in a SSC showdown on Dec. 29 at 4 p.m. For complete coverage of the action, follow the Sharks on Twitter @NSU_MBasketball or visit the schedule page on NSUSharks.com.
