FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – On the heels of his Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week selection, Nova Southeastern standout Connor Zinaich has also been recognized as the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Division II Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Zinaich becomes the first player from the SSC to be honored this season.
Opposing defenses had no answer for the redshirt-junior as the Sharks improved to 9-0 heading into the holidays after beating both Caldwell and Bluefield State by an average of 38.5 points. Zinaich collected 26.5 points per game on 67 percent shooting in the two wins to go along with 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 3.0 assists and 1.5 blocks. Against a Caldwell team that eventually took undefeated Lynn to the wire, the Hagerstown, Md. native posted a 26-point, 10-rebound double-double, while adding five steals on the defensive end. Just two days later, Zinaich native needed just 18 minutes to register a season-high 27 points, including the first eight of the second half to put the contest out of reach against Bluefield State.
Since joining the starting lineup on Dec. 8, Zinaich has led the team in scoring at 22.8 points per contest.
No. 5 NSU will return from a 10-day layoff by hosting No. 7 Florida Southern in a SSC showdown on Dec. 29 at 4 p.m. For complete coverage of the action, follow the Sharks on Twitter @NSU_MBasketball or visit the schedule page on NSUSharks.com.
