One Hundred Gather to Learn About Childhood Cancer Research

One hundred sponsors and supporters came together for I Care I Cure Childhood Cancer Foundation’s Learn at Lunch event on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Morton’s The Steakhouse in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Dr. Katherine Matthay, M.D. of the University of California San Francisco, one of the many researchers I Care I Cure has been able to help fund, spoke about her innovative targeted childhood cancer research, which is focused on 131 I-MIBG Imaging and Therapy for Neuroblastoma.

“It was wonderful to have Dr. Matthay explain the details and importance of her research so that everyone could gain an understanding of the direct impact the funds we raise has on the lives of children battling cancer. It really gave all our sponsors and supporters an in-depth look at her research and its potential to save children’s lives,” said Luncheon Chair and I Care I Cure Board Member Dara Levan.

I Care I Cure also recognized their 4th Annual I Care I Cure…I Run 5K and Family Fun Day sponsors and our Foundation Sponsors including BankAtlantic, Gold Coast Beverage Distributors, Dreams, Inc., A Happier Life: Life Coaching, Nike, and Greenberg Traurig.

“We are so grateful to all of our sponsors for their continued support and are proud to be able to hold this type of luncheon to enlighten them about the specific research they are helping to fund, “said President Beth-Ann Krimsky.

In addition to the sponsors and supporters, eight medical students interested in Pediatrics from Nova Southeastern University attended the luncheon.

“I Care I Cure invited these students in hopes to encourage young scientists to pursue research in the area of targeted therapy treatments for pediatric cancers with the idea being if more really bright brains work on the problem, we will get closer to a solution,” said Krimsky.
