Shanti Bruce, Ph.D., associate professor and coordinator of writing program at the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, spoke at Virginia Tech University on February 13, 2012, as part of the university’s Composition Speakers Series.

In her talk, titled “Multilingual Writers and the Writing Center,” Bruce spoke about the research process for her book ESL Writers: A Guide for Writing Center Tutors, which she co-edited with Ben Rafoth. Bruce also described the revision process and additions for the book’s second edition. The talk culminated in a discussion of how the field has evolved when it comes to working with culturally and linguistically diverse students in university writing classrooms and writing centers.

At NSU, Bruce teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate-level courses in writing, including a course on research methods. She also serves as chair of the college’s M.A. in Writing program. In 2011, she received the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Full-Time Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award in recognition of her strong commitment to student learning and student success.
