FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nearly two months from the start of the 2018-19 season, first-year head coach Joey Marino has announced the fall schedule for the Nova Southeastern men’s golf team.
The Sharks will look to begin their journey towards the program’s 17th postseason berth with an identical tournament lineup from the previous fall. Overall, Nova Southeastern will cram four tournaments into a five-week span, highlighted by the Shark Invitational on Oct. 8-9 at PGA National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
“The team and I are excited to start the new year,” said Marino, who ditched the interim tag and was officially named head coach on May 18. “With the same team returning, we are looking to build on the accomplishments we had last season. We have a great tournament schedule this fall season and will be competing at a number of PGA Tour-caliber golf courses in Copperhead, PGA National and Doral.”
Marino and company will make their debut when they tee it up at the Griffin Invitational, hosted by Saint Leo, from Sept. 24-25. The aforementioned Shark Invitational, previously known as the GolfRank Invitational, will follow two weeks later before Nova Southeastern heads to Palm Harbor, Fla. on Oct. 15-16 to compete in the Copperhead Championship, hosted by 2018 national runner-up West Florida. The non-championship season will wrap up in a hurry on Oct. 23 following 54 holes at the Miami Intercollegiate, one of two third-place finishes for the Sharks during the fall a year ago.
After concluding the 2017-18 campaign ranked No. 7 by Golfstat, Marino will have a loaded roster heading into the fall, including 2018 Sunshine State Conference Tournament champion Juan Jose Guerra and fellow All-American Finlay Mason. Lineup regulars Martin Larrea and Tomas Millet also return, giving the Sharks plenty of pieces to compete for their first SSC title since 2012.
