NSU Hosting Ebola Preparedness and Protocol Forum for Students, Faculty and Staff

WHAT: Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Center for Interprofessional Education and Practice and Institute for Disaster and Emergency Preparedness are hosting an Ebola Preparedness and Protocol forum to help educate and prepare students, faculty and staff on the issues surrounding the Ebola virus.

WHY: Fears of Ebola are reaching communities throughout the United States. As one of South Florida’s largest employers, NSU is taking a proactive approach to ensure its students, faculty and staff understand the protocols in place and are educated on the subject.

WHO: Panelists include a wide array of community disaster preparedness experts:

  • Moderator: Cecilia Rokusek, Ed.D., M.S., R.D., assistant dean for education, planning, and research at NSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Daniel Oatmeyer, battalion chief, EMS Bureau, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue
  • Kelly Keys-Torres, RN, B.S.N., CHEC II, Emergency Preparedness Manager, Corporate Emergency Preparedness, Broward Health
  • Michael Nonnemacher A.A.E., I.A.P., director of operations, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, North Perry Airport
  • James T. Howell, M.D., M.P.H., assistant dean for professional relations; chair, Department of Rural and Urban Underserved Medicine, and professor of public health, NSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and former secretary of the Florida Department of Health
  • Leonard A. Levy, D.P.M., M.P.H., associate dean for education, planning and research; director, Institute for Disaster and Emergency Preparedness, professor of family medicine/public health/biomedical informatics, NSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine

Directions: Take I-595 exit, westbound; proceed on I-595 to University Drive exit. Take University Drive south, approximately 1 mile past the I-595 intersection and pass through the SW 30th Street traffic light. Take a left at the next traffic light labeled “Nova Southeastern University.” The Terry building is the large 5-story building on the left with the big marble entrance. Take the elevator to the 5th floor and make a left toward the Chancellor’s Dining Room.
