LCME to Conduct Site Visit in the Upcoming Months

FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University (NSU) College of Allopathic Medicine (M.D. College) has been granted Candidate status by The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), the organization that accredits M.D. programs in the U.S. and Canada. The college is applying to become the eighth M.D.-degree awarding medical school in Florida.

LCME announced the decision following its June meeting and will schedule an accreditation site visit in upcoming months to the university’s Davie/Fort Lauderdale, Florida campus. Following the site visit, LCME will meet to consider whether the M.D. College receives Preliminary Accreditation and can begin matriculating its charter class.

“This is a major step as we pursue our vision to become an exemplary, 21st-century medical college recognized for excellence in education, research, and clinical care,” said Johannes W. Vieweg, M.D., FACS, founding dean of the M.D. College. “NSU’s new medical school presents a tremendous opportunity to be a part of a new model of teaching and practicing medicine with the focus of advancing human health.”
