Nova Southeastern University Selected to Host International Volleyball Championship

Nova Southeastern University (NSU) is proud to announce that it has been selected by USA Volleyball to host the 2016 North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) Women’s U20 Continental Championship.

 

“This is a tremendous honor for not only our athletics department, but for Nova Southeastern University as a whole and the entire South Florida community,” said Jennifer King, NSU’s head volleyball coach. “We look forward to hosing these athletes so they can showcase their talents, and we can showcase NSU.”

 

The championship is scheduled for July 26-31, with all matches taking place at NSU’s Don Taft University Center, 3300 S. University Drive., Fort Lauderdale/Davie campus.

 

The qualified teams for the championship are the United States as host, the top five teams from the NORCECA Women’s U20 Continental ranking and the three zonal champions from AFECAVOL, ECVA and CAZOVA Women’s U20 Regional Championships. Based on the 2016 qualified field, the countries scheduled to compete are:

  • United States (host); Costa Rica; Cuba; Dominican Republic; French St. Martin (ECVA champion); Guatemala (AFECAVOL vice-champion); Haiti (CAZOVA champion); Mexico; and Puerto Rico

 

The tentative schedule is:

 

Tues., July 26

1 p.m. – Cuba vs. Haiti

3 p.m. – Dominican Republic vs. Costa Rica

5 p.m. – Mexico vs. Puerto Rico

7 p.m. – United States vs. French St. Martin

 

Wed., July 27

1 p.m. – French St. Martin vs. Mexico

3 p.m. – Haiti vs. Dominican Republic

5 p.m. – Costa Rica vs. Cuba

7 p.m. – United States vs. Puerto Rico

Thurs., July 28

1 p.m. – Haiti vs. Costa Rica
3 p.m. – Puerto Rico vs. French St. Martin

5 p.m. – Cuba vs. Dominican Republic

7 p.m. – United States. vs. Mexico

 

Fri., July 29

5 p.m. – Quarterfinal 1

7 p.m. – Quarter Final 2

 

Sat., July 30

1 p.m. – Quarterfinal 3

3 p.m. – Quarterfinal 4

5 p.m. – Semifinal 1

7 p.m. – Semifinal 2

 

Sun., July 31

1 p.m. – 7/8 Match

3 p.m. – 5/6 Match

5 p.m. – Finals

7 p.m. – Championship Match

 

 

Admission is $15 per day, $10 per ticket for groups of 10 or more or $75 for a tournament pass. You can purchase tickets via Ticketmaster HERE.

 

The U.S. Women’s Junior National Team has won the event six out of the nine editions, including five of the last six tournaments.
