FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – The Nova Singers of Nova Southeastern University (NSU) have been selected to be the backup choir for Barry Manilow’s “One Last Time” concert at the BB&T Center on Friday, Feb. 5. Thirty-five of the 150-member Nova Singers will join Mr. Manilow in the finale of the concert when he sings his signature songs including “I Write the Songs,” “Copacabana,” “Mandy” and “Looks Like We Made It.”
“We are all about keeping choral music alive and believe that every opportunity we have to perform is a group adventure in the art of music making,” said Chuck Stanley, Nova Singers artistic director. “We are honored to be on stage with such a legendary singer, songwriter and producer as Barry Manilow.”
The Nova Singers is NSU’s premier community chorus. Now celebrating its 40th anniversary, the all-volunteer choir members range from NSU undergraduate students to retired members from the communities of Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade Counties. The Nova Singers serves as musical ambassadors for the university as they sing around the country and abroad. The choir’s previous performance destinations include Carnegie Hall in New York and Saint Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, with a scheduled trip to Budapest, Vienna and Prague this summer. The Nova Singers’ repertoire ranges from the classics and Broadway hits to modern composers’ original works.
NSU undergraduate biology major Sabrina Charles, from Coral Springs, is “thrilled” to be among the 35 members of the Nova Singers to perform at Manilow’s finale concert Feb. 5. Also thrilled to be performing from NSU is Melissa Dore, director of academic support and administration at NSU’s Halmos College of Natural Science and Oceanography.

The Feb. 5 concert is likely to be the last performance by Barry Manilow in South Florida. Following a final appearance in Pensacola, Mr. Manilow will perform in England after which time he will be retiring as a vocal artist and writer following a career that began in the 1960s.
