No Pressure, But Don’t Miss This New Print Exhibition

Artist Jessica Spring's work, "Illuminate"
Work from book artist Jessica Spring, such as this piece titled “Illuminate,” will be on display at NSU beginning Nov. 7.

This past summer, 11 individuals embarked on a journey into uncharted artistic territory. The artists participated in a letterpress-printing workshop, led by book artist Jessica Spring, that transcended traditional typesetting conventions by focusing on handset type composition with lead, wood, and ornaments.

Now, the NSU community is invited to view the resulting series of prints, on display in the latest exhibition hosted by the NSU Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences.

Daredevils Under Pressure | Exhibition Series

Nov. 7–Dec. 2
Opening Reception: Thursday, Nov. 7 | 5:30–8:00 p.m.

Gallery 217 | Don Taft University Center

The Daredevils Under Pressure exhibition showcases a wide variety of typographic experimentation and serves as a testament to the rewards of experimental handset composition sans computer. This series, which includes a number of Spring’s prints and examples of her process photography, provides an understanding of the technical exploration achieved at the workshop, part of the 2013 Paper and Book Intensive held in Saugatuck, Michigan, May 12–23.

Admission to the Daredevils Under Pressure exhibition at NSU is free, and tickets are not required for entry. For more information and gallery hours, call (954) 262-7620.
